Depending on district needs, your role may focus on resource/inclusion services—empowering students with mild-to-moderate disabilities to thrive alongside peers in the general curriculum—or lead a self-contained classroom, providing focused structure and care.
Key Qualifications:
- Possess a current Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license appropriate for the grade band (Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary)
- Demonstrated or emerging proficiency in Structured Literacy, with compliance with Rhode Island’s Right to Read Act (either already certified or able to complete the training/credential within one year of employment)
- Experience with elementary-age children and a commitment to facilitating both academic and social-emotional growth
- Highly communicative and enthusiastic about collaborating with faculty, families, and external support providers
- Organized, compassionate, and innovative in adapting lessons and strategies
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for elementary students
- Adapt classroom materials and work collaboratively with general educators
- Deliver specialized instruction both in resource/inclusion and self-contained settings as assigned
- Monitor student progress, update records, and participate in IEP meetings
