Special Education Teacher | Allentown, Pennsylvania
Make an impact as an Itinerant Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year, supporting multiple specialized programs across Lehigh and Carbon Counties. In this dynamic contract role, you’ll help students with a range of unique needs, including autism, emotional support, multiple disabilities, and behavioral challenges. Adaptability is key—you’ll rotate between programs according to district priorities, ranging from covering vacancies and leaves of absence to filling longer-term classroom assignments.
Assignments include opportunities at autism and emotional support centers, functional life skills classrooms, and behavioral support programs. You’ll play a vital role in implementing IEP goals, delivering individualized instruction, and helping students thrive academically and emotionally in various school settings.
What We’re Looking For:
- Active Pennsylvania Special Education certification (required or strongly preferred, depending on site)
- Solid experience teaching in special education classrooms
- Proven ability to implement IEPs and provide specialized instruction
- Strong behavioral and classroom management skills
- Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals, related services, and families
- Flexibility—and enthusiasm—for serving in multiple classroom and program environments
- Preference given to candidates with backgrounds in Autism Support, Emotional Support, Multiple Disabilities, behavioral health, or experience in specialized program/Intermediate Unit settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and individualized supports to students with diverse needs
- Apply best practices in behavior supports, communication, sensory regulation, and trauma-informed approaches
- Collaborate to foster inclusive, supportive learning environments
- Quickly adapt to new teams, routines, and student needs month-to-month
Candidates must live within about a 35-minute commute of assigned sites and be able to start August 2026.
