For the 2026-2027 school year, an exciting opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher with a strong background in managing significant behavior challenges. This contract position is located near Aurora, IL, and supports students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 across two specialized classrooms, each with no more than 13 students and supported by two dedicated paraprofessionals. The primary focus is teaching and reinforcing positive, replacement behaviors for students exhibiting eloping, defiance, physical aggression, and refusal behaviors.

Ideal candidates bring expertise in promoting behavioral growth and a commitment to fostering safe, supportive classroom environments. Training in CPI de-escalation is included, ensuring all staff are prepared with the latest behavioral intervention techniques—even though physical restraint is not part of the program.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Special Education teaching certification (IL SPED) and Professional Educator License (PEL) required
  • Experience supporting students with significant behavioral needs
  • Ability to design and deliver replacement behavior instruction
  • Strong classroom management and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to participate in CPI de-escalation training

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) targeting behavioral and academic goals
  • Teach replacement behaviors and monitor progress to foster student success
  • Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals and related service providers
  • Maintain detailed records and ongoing communication with families and staff
  • Create a structured, positive classroom environment that minimizes behavioral crises
