Take your expertise in special education to a vibrant school community in the Birmingham area! We are seeking passionate Special Education (Ex Ed) Teachers for a contract role serving elementary and high school students. The greatest need centers around elementary self-contained classrooms, designed with no more than 10 students and smaller groups (typically 4-6) for a focused, supportive learning environment.
Key Details:
- Contract dates: August 6, 2026, through May 27, 2027
- Full-time, onsite schedule (37.5 hours per week)
- Multiple openings: 38 roles in elementary (self-contained focus) and 13 in high school
Qualifications:
- Valid Alabama Special Education (SPED) licensure required (verify at https://tcert.alsde.edu/Portal/Public/Pages/SearchCerts.aspx)
- K-6 endorsement required for elementary, 6-12 for secondary; candidates may have dual endorsements but must match the desired age group
- Previous experience in similar self-contained or high school settings is strongly preferred
- Dedication to supporting a range of disabilities and learning needs with compassion, structure, and creativity
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction following IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and support staff
- Maintain compliance with state and district special education regulations
