Special Education Teacher | Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Step into a dynamic Special Education teaching opportunity, supporting a network of specialized programs throughout the academic year. This itinerant substitute position serves programs across Lehigh and Carbon Counties, delivering essential instruction and behavioral support from August 10, 2026, to June 11, 2027 (tentative). Enjoy the variety of traveling between sites, as you adapt to classrooms serving students with diverse academic, communication, and emotional needs. Assignments may include coverage in autism support, emotional and behavioral support, life skills, and functional academics.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Pennsylvania Special Education teaching certification (preferred or required, depending on assignment)
- Demonstrated classroom experience, particularly in special education settings
- Strong skills in implementing IEP goals, providing differentiated instruction, and supporting behavioral needs
- Experience adapting to new classroom settings and supporting students with disabilities, behavioral challenges, or specialized programs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Ability to maintain flexibility and transition smoothly between assignments in various locations
- Preferred: Background in Autism Support, Emotional Support, Multiple Disabilities, behavioral intervention, or IU/specialized school settings
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver quality instruction and accommodations per IEP mandates
- Support students in classrooms focused on autism, emotional support, or multiple disabilities, including enhanced behavioral or communication programs
- Collaborate on de-escalation, sensory regulation, communication support, and life skills development
- Provide leave coverage/vacancy coverage as scheduled, adapting to each site’s unique needs and expectations
- Contribute to a positive, structured learning environment
This contract offers a structured school-day schedule, variety in daily settings, and the rewarding experience of supporting students across a wide range of specialized programs. Candidates must reside within approximately a 35-minute commute from assigned sites.
