Special Education Teacher - Chickamauga, GA
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting young learners in a dedicated Special Education Pre-K program. You will work closely with children ages 3-5, each bringing unique strengths and requiring individualized support, especially in developing communication, self-care, and behavior regulation skills. This full-time role (37.5 hours/week) spans the entire academic year, from August 4th, 2026, through May 21st, 2027, and offers the chance to make a lasting difference in early childhood education.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active GaPSC Teaching Certificate with both Special and General Education Endorsements for Pre-K age groups
- Experience working with young children with varying levels of need and ability, especially in a special education capacity
- Background as a Special Education Teacher or Paraprofessional preferred
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and behavioral support strategies
- Comfort with tasks including toileting/diapering and assist feeding for children who may have limited verbal skills
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and caregivers
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored instruction and support for Pre-K students with IEPs, many of whom are non-verbal or developing verbal communication
- Assist with daily living activities, including feeding, toilet training, and hygiene needs
- Implement behavior management and communication strategies to foster a positive, encouraging classroom atmosphere
- Track student progress, contribute to IEP meetings, and maintain thorough records
- Foster trusting relationships with students and families, promoting inclusive education
