Step into a meaningful role supporting young learners in a welcoming, collaborative elementary school environment. This opportunity is perfect for a dedicated Special Education Teacher passionate about making a lasting difference in students’ lives. You’ll be guiding a small self-contained class of 4th and 5th graders (7-8 students), focusing on tailored instruction and social-emotional growth within a supportive network of educators.

Your expertise will be especially valued if you have experience with evidence-based programs such as Unique or STAR curriculum, or if you’ve spent time in self-contained settings. Surrounded by colleagues working with similar student populations, you’ll have the guidance and support needed to thrive. The classroom is set in a specialized building devoted to self-contained programs, creating an environment where collaboration and resource-sharing are part of everyday practice.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification appropriate for Illinois
  • Background working with elementary-age students with diverse learning needs
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, Unique or STAR curricula
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to contribute to a team-oriented environment
  • Dedication to fostering a nurturing, inclusive classroom culture

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver individualized instruction for 4th and 5th grade students in a self-contained classroom
  • Adapt materials and teaching methods to meet each child’s IEP
  • Foster positive social and academic growth
  • Collaborate closely with related service providers and support staff
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians

Work schedule runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8:05 am to 3:35 pm, and Wednesday from 8:05 am to 3:50 pm, beginning August 17, 2026 through May 28, 2027, with an option for early onboarding at the new teacher orientation.
