Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education K-12 required
- Understanding of instruction for students with visual impairments and multiple disabilities
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and team collaboration skills
- Previous experience with visually impaired students preferred
- Comfortable lifting/positioning students (up to 50 lbs) and using physical support equipment as needed
- Adaptability for activities such as assisting in the therapy pool or during student transportation
- Manual dexterity for technology and classroom tools
Core Responsibilities:
- Design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal requirements
- Assess students’ needs through Functional Vision and Learning Media Assessments
- Adapt curriculum and materials using braille, tactile graphics, magnification, or auditory formats
- Serve as classroom and Educational Team leader
- Facilitate IEP and team meetings, collaborating with families and related service providers
- Track student progress, making data-driven adjustments to instruction
- Support student behavior, social-emotional growth, and self-advocacy
- Stay current with best practices through ongoing professional development
This position provides support for obtaining a Teacher of the Visually Impaired certificate if extended beyond two years, including assistance with certification program costs.
