Special Education Teacher | Katy, Texas
Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity providing dedicated support as a Special Education Teacher for an elementary life skills classroom. You'll inspire and nurture students with intellectual disabilities, working closely with a supportive team just west of Houston. This full-time role follows the school calendar, with 37.5 hours per week spent fostering growth, independence, and success in a tight-knit classroom community.
Your classroom will consist of approximately 10 elementary students, assisted by two teacher assistants in a self-contained environment. You'll serve as a compassionate leader, facilitating individualized instruction and life skills development. Collaboration with campus staff, related service professionals, and families will be central to guiding your students' academic and personal milestones.
Qualifications:
- Valid Texas Special Education EC-12 teaching certification
- Experience or strong interest in teaching elementary students with intellectual disabilities
- Confidence managing a self-contained classroom setting
- Familiarity with IEP development, instructional modification, and positive behavior support
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Current fingerprint background check and drug screening per district requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver differentiated, standards-based lessons for life skills students
- Write, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment
- Supervise and collaborate with teacher assistants
- Communicate regularly with families and support staff
- Accurately document progress and maintain compliance with district policies and timelines
