Special Education Teacher - Millbrook, Alabama
Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students by supporting self-contained Language/Autism Units across multiple elementary schools. This contract position offers the opportunity to work onsite in a collaborative, dedicated educational environment with strong para support at each location. Assignments are available for the 2026–2027 school year, working with students in grades K-5 (and potentially up to grade 5 in some units) in Montgomery, AL.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Current and valid Special Education (SPED) Teacher licensure in Alabama (candidates may verify at the state certification website)
- Previous experience working within self-contained classrooms, specifically with Autism Spectrum Disorders, highly valued
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload and collaborate with paraprofessional staff
- Strong communication skills and adaptability in various elementary grade levels
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive, and structured classroom environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead instruction and individualized education planning for students in Language/Autism Units, caseloads ranging from 10 to 20 students depending on the location
- Coordinate daily with paras (three to five per classroom, based on school assignment)
- Develop and implement curriculum modifications and behavioral interventions tailored to student needs
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and IEP documentation
- Engage collaboratively with school staff, administration, and families to support student growth and success
- Ensure compliance with all district and state regulations regarding special education practices
