Special Education Teacher in Montgomery, AL
Make a difference for students with exceptional needs in a rewarding onsite contract opportunity for Special Education teachers supporting several elementary schools near Montgomery, AL. This assignment runs from August 2026 to May 2027, with full-time hours (37.5 per week) and focuses on Language/Autism self-contained units. Work closely with a collaborative team of paraprofessionals in inclusive, supportive environments dedicated to providing individualized care.
You will be matched to one of several welcoming K-5 campuses, each serving approximately 10–20 students in a dedicated Language/Autism classroom setting. Strong teaching teams of three to five paraprofessionals support these units, ensuring that each student receives personalized attention and opportunities to flourish.
Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education teaching license (SPED) in Alabama (license can be verified through the state website)
- Experience working with K–5 students in self-contained or autism support settings preferred
- Deep understanding of IEP processes and ability to tailor instruction to diverse learning needs
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, positive classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instructional strategies to students in Language/Autism units
- Develop, implement, and monitor student IEP goals
- Supervise and lead a team of paraprofessionals within the classroom
- Utilize data to drive instruction and report on student progress
