Special Education Teacher | Montrose, Colorado
Exciting opportunity for a dedicated Special Education Teacher (Mild/Moderate) to make a meaningful impact in a supportive educational environment for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time contract position beginning August 17, 2026, and extending through May 27, 2027. The role is based in a K–12 setting, serving students with mild to moderate needs through individualized instruction and collaborative support.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Colorado Special Education License (Mild/Moderate) or eligibility via reciprocity
- Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities preferred
- Thorough understanding of IEP development, special education compliance, and progress monitoring
- Demonstrated ability to implement behavioral supports, accommodations, and differentiated instruction
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organization skills
- K–12 Special Education experience highly valued
- Background in alternative education or therapeutic settings is a plus
- Familiarity with PBIS, MTSS, Behavior Intervention Plans, and Functional Behavior Assessments desirable
- Excellent classroom management and rapport-building abilities
- Onsite presence required
Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted, specialized instruction to K–12 students within a mild/moderate special education setting
- Develop, implement, and regularly review IEPs to meet student needs
- Conduct progress monitoring and ensure compliance documentation is thorough and timely
- Collaborate closely with general educators, service providers, and families
- Provide accommodations and differentiated lessons to foster achievement
- Apply evidence-based behavioral supports and intervention strategies
- Take part in all relevant evaluations, meetings, and team collaborations
- Adhere to local and federal special education regulations and district standards
- Build a positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages independence and achievement
