Special Education Teacher in Pittsfield, MA

Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher, supporting students in Substantially Separate Classrooms. This full-time contract position is available in the Pittsfield area, with openings in both a K-1st grade classroom and a 3rd-5th grade classroom. You’ll work onsite exclusively, making a difference in the lives of students with significant cognitive and physical disabilities, some of whom are non-verbal or on the autism spectrum. Certain students will have the added resource of RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) support, and you’ll collaborate closely with support staff to meet each student’s unique needs. Applicants with experience in specially designed instruction and applied behavior analysis are especially encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
- Licensure or certification appropriate for Special Education teaching
- Previous classroom experience in special education, particularly with severe needs and diverse learning profiles
- Preferred: Experience with applied behavior analysis (ABA) and specially designed instruction (SDI)
- Ability to provide toileting and personal care supports as needed
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Compassion and adaptability in challenging situations
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with significant disabilities
- Foster a supportive and adaptive classroom environment focused on student growth
- Collaborate with RBTs and other support staff
- Provide direct instruction and behavioral interventions
- Support students with daily living activities and personal care, including toileting
- Maintain open communication with families and multidisciplinary teams
