Special Education Teacher | Semmes, Alabama
Step into a vital role supporting elementary students as a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained setting. This is a contract opportunity with a rewarding mission: providing expert support for students in grades K–5 who have not had a dedicated SPED teacher in three years. Your skills will truly make a difference!
This on-site position is ideal for travel professionals seeking an enriching experience in a welcoming school environment. With a caseload of 20 students, shared between two Special Education Teachers, the school is committed to restructuring support and fostering student growth. Some toileting assistance will be necessary. The school seeks a compassionate, certified educator ready to collaborate and help shape an inclusive culture as part of a renewed SPED team.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Educator Certification in Special Education (must present license images)
- Experience with K–5 special education populations, especially self-contained classrooms
- Ability to manage personal care (including toileting) for students as needed
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic elementary setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group instruction tailored to IEP goals
- Collaborate with a second Special Education Teacher to ensure the caseload is effectively supported
- Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom
- Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate with families and staff
- Participate in IEP meetings and adapt as student needs evolve
This position is full-time (35 hours per week) from 7:45am to 3:15pm and runs through the end of the 2026-27 academic year.
