Special Education Teacher | Theodore, Alabama

Step into a rewarding opportunity as a Special Education Teacher supporting elementary students in a dedicated, self-contained classroom. This contract role is on-site and well-suited for travel professionals who are adaptable and ready to make a real difference within a close-knit team. The assignment is located in a vibrant community near Theodore, AL and runs from ASAP through May 26, 2027, offering consistency and a chance to develop meaningful relationships with students and staff.
You'll work Monday through Friday from 7:40am to 3:20pm, providing specialized instruction and support to a small caseload of 12 students in grades K–5. With a paraprofessional by your side, you'll focus on creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment tailored to children with diverse needs, including autism and toileting support.
What You'll Need:
- Valid Educator Certification (must be presented with images for verification)
- Prior experience teaching students with special needs, preferably in a self-contained setting
- Ability to support students with autism and provide assistance with toileting as needed
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with paraprofessionals, students, and families
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, engaging, and structured classroom
What You'll Do:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student
- Deliver instruction in accordance with best practices and district policies
- Adapt curriculum and strategies to meet a wide range of learning and behavioral needs
- Foster a positive, respectful classroom culture
- Document progress, consult with staff and parents, and participate in team meetings
