Special Education Teacher | Washington Navy Yard, District of Columbia
Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting K-5th grade students with Autism Spectrum Disorder as a Special Education Teacher. This contract position offers a chance to inspire growth, foster independence, and impact the lives of young learners in a highly supportive environment located near the Washington Navy Yard, DC.
Your workday runs from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, following the school’s calendar. The assignment begins with preservice training between August 10th and August 21st, 2026, and continues with students starting on August 24th, 2026. The contract runs through June 23, 2027, providing stability and the chance to build strong relationships with your students and colleagues. You’ll work exclusively at one campus, managing a caseload of 8-10 K-5th grade students and collaborating with dedicated specialized teams.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in grades K-5
- Passion for differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans
- Commitment to inclusive, nurturing classroom environments
- Positive, solution-oriented communication and collaboration skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct, individualized instruction to students with diverse learning profiles
- Develop and implement IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) in collaboration with school teams and families
- Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet each learner’s unique needs
- Track and document student progress, participate in IEP meetings, and communicate regularly with families and staff
