Special Education Teacher | Waukegan, Illinois
Make an impact supporting elementary students with diverse learning needs in a vibrant school community just north of Chicago. This full-time, contract opportunity spans the academic year, allowing you to engage deeply within a well-resourced, collaborative environment. You'll work with a manageable caseload of 8-12 K-4 students, using a resource model that combines both targeted small-group instruction and integrated support within general education classrooms. Your expertise will help students advance academically while providing essential social and emotional support.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) from Illinois (or eligible for IL licensure via the ISBE Educator Licensure Information System)
- Certified or trained in Orton Gillingham or other recognized multi-sensory instructional programs (SLANT, Wilson, Sonday, etc.) preferred
- Prior experience supporting elementary students in special education settings, ideally within a resource model
- Strong skills in collaboration, communication, and adaptive instruction
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable classroom environments
Role Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students
- Provide both pull-out and push-in support, tailoring instruction to students’ academic and social/emotional goals
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, related services, and families to ensure students’ holistic growth
- Maintain detailed records and comply with all special education legal and district requirements
- Participate in professional development activities and team meetings
This contract opportunity is onsite, running from late August through early June, Monday through Friday, totaling 35 hours weekly with built-in lunch and breaks. You’ll make a tangible difference every day while connecting with a dedicated team of educators.
