Special Education Teacher | Wetumpka, Alabama
Make a lasting impact as a Special Education Teacher supporting students in self-contained Language/Autism units across several elementary campuses. You’ll play a vital role from August 2026 through May 2027, engaging collaboratively onsite with paraprofessionals to provide individualized instruction for students in grades K-5. This contract opportunity offers you the chance to empower learners with diverse needs in a setting designed for support and growth.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Valid SPED licensure in Alabama required (check status at the state certification website)
- Prior experience teaching in Special Education, particularly with Language/Autism units, is highly valued
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a team of paraprofessionals to meet classroom needs
- Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to working with students in a self-contained environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and small-group instruction to students with language and autism-related needs
- Work closely with 3–5 paraprofessionals per classroom to maintain a structured and nurturing environment
- Implement and track progress on IEP goals in coordination with staff and families
- Differentiate curriculum to accommodate varying learning styles and developmental levels
- Foster a classroom culture rooted in dignity, respect, and high expectations for every learner
- Engage in regular collaboration with school staff, therapists, and administrators to ensure a comprehensive approach
- Maintain accurate records and document student growth
This position includes a full-time schedule (37.5 hours weekly) during the academic year, working onsite within schools that value support, structure, and teamwork.
