Special Education Teacher - Plainfield, IL
Seeking a dedicated special education professional to empower students with behavioral challenges for the 2026-2027 school year. You’ll support 3rd–5th and 6th–8th grade learners, with no more than 13 students per classroom, assisted by two skilled paraprofessionals in each setting. The classroom environment is designed for students exhibiting significant behaviors, such as eloping, defiance, aggression, and refusal. Your mission is to foster positive, lasting change by teaching evidence-based replacement behaviors.
To excel in this role, you’ll receive specialized training in CPI-de escalation (provided for all team members), preparing you to navigate challenging moments in a safe, supportive manner—without the use of physical restraint.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Special Education certification (IL SPED cert) and Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Experience with students exhibiting intensive behavioral needs (elopement, defiance, physical aggression, etc.)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to implement behavior intervention strategies and data collection
- Commitment to social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices
