Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting middle school students as a Special Education Teacher. This position focuses on working with a dedicated group of 6th to 8th graders in a self-contained classroom. Expect to guide a small caseload—no more than eight students—many of whom experience varying degrees of autism and additional learning differences. This long-term substitute role is estimated to last 8 to 12 weeks, spanning from the end of August through October, with the possibility of extension depending on the nature of the leave being covered.

Qualifications:

  • Active Maryland Special Education Certification for grades 6–12 (conditional certifications considered)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Special Education (school-based or equivalent preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of instructional strategies for students with autism and learning disabilities
  • Ability to foster a supportive, empathetic, and structured classroom environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills

Responsibilities:

  • Teach and manage a self-contained classroom of middle school students within the Stride program
  • Differentiate instruction based on individual education plans (IEPs) and student needs
  • Develop engaging lesson plans and adjust curriculum as necessary for a range of abilities
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
  • Complete all necessary documentation, data collection, and IEP-related reporting

You’ll work a consistent Monday through Friday, 40-hour week and play a pivotal role in helping students advance academically and socially during a crucial phase of their education.
