Special Education Teacher | Gresham, Oregon
Make a significant impact on the lives of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a dynamic, supportive educational environment. In this contract position, you'll provide tailored instructional activities to students ranging from kindergarten to age 21 within a district-wide Autism Support program. The role is itinerant, offering the unique opportunity to work with diverse learners and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates with several years of direct autism-specific experience are highly encouraged.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teacher credentials.
- Several years of hands-on experience supporting students with ASD, including both Asperger’s Syndrome and high-functioning autism.
- Strong background in applied behavior analysis and behavior support plan development.
- Deep understanding of IEP and 504 processes, state standards, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, both for collaborating with teams and for writing clear assessment reports.
- Ability to train and coach other educators, support staff, and families, affirming cultural and linguistic diversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction across classroom, resource, and community settings.
- Develop, implement, and update behavior support plans based on behavioral data.
- Conduct assessments, interpret results, and tailor programming to student needs.
- Lead and participate in IEP meetings, collaborating with families and related service providers.
- Design and facilitate professional development for staff and parents.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to ensure accessibility for all learners.
- Promote positive social skills and independence among students through research-based practices.
- Maintain a safe, structured environment and respond appropriately to crisis situations.
