Special Education Teacher - Lexington, VA
A rewarding opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support high school students for the remainder of the academic year. This position offers both a full-time, in-person role and a part-time virtual role to assist students in alternative placements. The assignment is contract-based through the end of May.
What We’re Looking For:
- Valid Special Education teaching certification
- Experience teaching high school students with diverse needs
- Knowledge of IEP development and implementation
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and support personnel
- Comfortable with technology for virtual instruction, if applying for the remote role
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruct and support a caseload of 21-22 high school students, promoting academic and social growth
- Develop, update, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and communication
- Offer differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s unique strengths and needs
- For the virtual role: provide instruction and support to students in alternative placements, ensuring their continued engagement and progress
- For the in-person role: serve on-site for up to 40 hours per week, supporting students within the school environment
