Special Education Teacher | Minneapolis, Minnesota
Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher supporting students’ growth and success near Minneapolis, MN. This contract role serves two unique sites—a high school and an elementary school—providing diverse day-to-day experiences and the chance to make a difference across multiple age groups. You’ll craft and execute adaptive physical education activities aligned with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and work closely with an experienced DAPE (Developmental Adapted Physical Education) team in a collaborative, student-centered environment.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- State certification in Special Education (Special Education Teacher licensure required)
- Background working with students who have a variety of disabilities
- Familiarity with IEP-driven lesson planning and documentation
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with teachers, staff, and families
- Experience in adaptive physical education or willingness to learn
- Ability to balance direct teaching and administrative responsibilities across multiple locations
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver day-to-day gym and movement activities tailored for students with disabilities, ensuring all lessons align with IEP goals
- Provide instruction daily for back-to-back classes at the high school site
- Teach in the elementary classroom two days each week, adapting to younger students’ needs
- Maintain accurate due process and progress documentation
- Work as part of the district's DAPE team, contributing ideas and expertise to promote student achievement
