This assignment is based at a unique special private school, just outside of Albany, from July 2026 to June 2027. Located near Queensbury, NY, you’ll find yourself in an area renowned for its stunning natural beauty—picture weekends exploring the Adirondacks, visiting Lake George, or discovering the historic charm and cultural scene of upstate New York. This location is perfect for those eager to expand their horizons both professionally and personally.
You’ll thrive in a supportive, specialized setting working in either the Middle School or High School, with small class sizes (8:1:3 classroom ratio) and a focus on students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, severe behaviors, and alternative communication needs. This role is ideal for professionals eager to build expertise in high-needs education, collaborate with experienced teams, and develop new approaches to individualized instruction.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- NY State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or eligibility; recent graduates, those with out-of-state credentials, or in the process of obtaining NY licensure are encouraged to apply.
- Strongly preferred: Experience with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, or non-verbal/alternative communication learners.
- Experience with alternative assessments and curriculum modification desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Full-time schedule (M-F, 7:45am–3:15pm); flexibility for additional work (up to 40 hours/week) for paperwork, planning, and IEP completion.
- Teach and support in self-contained classrooms using individualized strategies for high-needs students.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and families.
