Special Education Teacher | Clifton Park, New York

The school accommodates 78 students across 10 classrooms, maintaining a focused 8:1:3 staffing ratio. Both middle and high school level positions are open, providing a chance to work with individuals diagnosed with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, and significant behavioral challenges—many of whom are non-verbal and utilize alternative communication systems.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid New York State license in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or actively pursuing one
- Open to candidates with a recent Master’s degree or those working on license transfer from another state
- Strongly preferred: experience with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, alternative communication, or medically complex students
- Familiarity with alternative assessments and curriculum modification highly valued
Responsibilities:
- Support students’ academic, social, and behavioral growth in a consistent, nurturing classroom environment
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Employ adaptive strategies and alternative communication systems tailored to each student’s needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support staff to ensure holistic care
- Effectively modify curriculum and assessment tools as needed to maximize student success
- Dedicate approved additional time (up to 40 hours total per week) for essential tasks such as paperwork, IEPs, and lesson planning
