Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with preferred endorsements: Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) combined with another area of special education
- Willingness to work with caseloads in self-contained or resource settings (learning disabilities, cognitive or emotional impairments)
- Understanding of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA Federal Regulations
- Ability to discuss the challenges experienced by students in urban districts and identify resources for student/family support
- Submission of official university transcripts prior to hire
- Comfortable working onsite; remote/virtual teaching is not available for these roles
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom for academic and behavioral growth
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and academic mentors
- Engage in professional development and mandatory training programs
- Maintain compliance with MARSE and IDEA federal requirements
