Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate required; preference given to those with Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), or Learning Disabilities (LD) endorsements. MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) plus another Special Education area is also valued.
- Experience or strong knowledge of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA Federal Regulations.
- Comfort working in urban settings and a readiness to discuss challenges faced by children in city schools, as well as appropriate resources for families.
- Must provide a copy of official university transcripts prior to placement.
- Open to candidates who thrive in collaborative, team-based teaching environments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead self-contained or resource classrooms, supporting up to 22 students depending on assignment.
- Develop and implement tailored educational plans for students with cognitive or learning disabilities.
- Engage with a multidisciplinary team, including paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, mentors, and special education support staff.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom community.
