Special Education Teacher - Portage, IN
Step into a rewarding opportunity guiding Middle School students as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive environment. This contract position begins as soon as possible and runs through December 18th, with the exciting potential to extend for the entire school year. Additionally, there’s an upcoming middle school leave coverage opening for the spring semester, offering valuable continuity.
You’ll work with a self-contained class of 5–8 students with emotional disabilities, supported by a dedicated team of paraprofessionals. This allows for focused, individualized instruction and strong teamwork. Your commitment will span 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, providing the ideal schedule for building positive relationships and maintaining academic structure.
Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana Special Education Teacher Certification (Mild Intervention or Moderate/Severe)
- Experience working with middle school students, especially those with emotional disabilities, is highly valued
- Comfortable collaborating with paraprofessional support staff
- Passion for creating inclusive, enriching learning environments tailored to each student’s needs
- Strong communication, organization, and adaptability skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to middle school students in a self-contained setting
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate closely with support staff, administration, and families
- Maintain a structured, positive, and growth-oriented classroom environment
- Monitor progress and adapt lessons to maximize student achievement
