About the Opportunity
Our education staffing agency is currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher to support students in a middle school self-contained (sustained support) classroom. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping students with diverse learning needs achieve academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success in a structured and supportive learning environment.
This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while collaborating with special education teams, related service providers, school administrators, and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in a self-contained sustained support classroom setting.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs and learning goals.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP objectives.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, therapists, and families to support student growth and success.
- Implement positive behavior intervention and support strategies to foster a safe and productive classroom environment.
- Manage classroom routines, schedules, accommodations, and modifications to promote student engagement and independence.
- Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Exceptional Children Education, or related field.
- Valid North Carolina teaching certification/licensure in Special Education (EC).
- Experience working with middle school students with diverse learning, behavioral, and developmental needs preferred.
- Knowledge of IEP development, behavior management techniques, and differentiated instruction.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a self-contained or sustained support classroom.
- Familiarity with autism spectrum disorders, emotional and behavioral disabilities, and intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Experience implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar behavioral management certification preferred.
