Special Education Teacher in Amherst, MA
Step into a key leadership role supporting middle school students as an Evaluation Team Leader for the 2026–2027 school year. This full-time, onsite opportunity focuses on guiding special education practices and compliance, working in collaboration with educators, families, and service providers committed to student success.
As an Evaluation Team Leader, you'll have the opportunity to impact education at a systemic level, coordinating every aspect of the special education process under Massachusetts law. Your expertise will help develop and finalize Individualized Education Plans, partner with stakeholders in diverse communities, and ensure regulations are met at every turn.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution
- Massachusetts Teacher certification for Students with Moderate Disabilities preferred; alternative DESE certifications/licenses may be considered
- Most candidates bring MA Special Education Teacher or counseling licenses
- At least three years of successful experience in public schools
- Background in areas like special education, guidance, counseling, or psychology
- Strong skills in collaboration and communication across diverse groups
- Deep empathy for students’ and families’ needs in special education
Core Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and facilitate special education compliance (M.G.L. 71B and 603 CMR 28.00)
- Develop and deliver high-quality IEPs for assigned students
- Act as liaison among families, staff, principals, and community organizations
- Attend required professional development sessions
- Collaborate with school leadership to ensure the highest standards of student support
Additional requirements include the ability to pass a drug screen, fingerprinting, and background check (CORI). Candidates must submit a resume, proof of licensure, and required documentation.
