Special Education Teacher in Poughkeepsie, NY

Full-time special education teaching opportunities are currently open within purpose-built programs near New Windsor, NY. Each classroom features a small group setting—class sizes range from 6, 8, or 12 students—and is fully supported by a collaborative team of a certified Special Education Teacher and three skilled staff members. Students are referred by local districts and grouped according to IEP goals, academic functioning, and any behavioral support needs, fostering an environment where every child can thrive.
Available positions include Kindergarten/Elementary Special Education Teacher roles with a daily schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, as well as Preschool Special Education Teacher opportunities within the SFP program, scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There is a particular need for teachers passionate about early childhood and Grades 1–3 instruction.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid Special Education certification (Early Childhood and/or K–12 Special Education strongly preferred)
- Experience working with self-contained classrooms or diverse learners
- Strong understanding of IEP implementation and progress monitoring
- Familiarity with individualized behavior support plans is a plus
- State-required clearances (or eligibility to obtain quickly)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s IEP goals
- Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom atmosphere
- Collaborate closely with classroom staff and related service providers
- Monitor and document student progress for ongoing IEP review
- Contribute to team meetings and family communications as needed
