Special Education Teacher | Wappingers Falls, New York
Exciting opportunities are available for dedicated Special Education Teachers to support students in self-contained classrooms in the New Windsor, NY area. These rewarding, full-time, onsite contract positions focus on making a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners referred from local public school districts. Classrooms are intentionally kept small—with class sizes of 6, 8, or 12 students—ensuring personalized instruction with one teacher and three additional staff members per room.
There are current openings for a Kindergarten/Elementary Special Education Teacher (with high need for Grades 1–3) and a Preschool Special Education Teacher (SFP Program), each playing a vital role in delivering individualized education and behavioral support based on each student’s IEP.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid New York State certification in Early Childhood Special Education and/or K–12 Special Education (preferred)
- Experience working in self-contained or special education classroom settings
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and IEP-driven practices
- Familiarity with individualized behavior support plans
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with classroom staff and related service providers
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement individualized lesson plans and support strategies tailored to each student’s academic and developmental needs
- Collaborate with a team of three additional classroom staff members
- Maintain detailed documentation to track student progress toward IEP goals
- Cultivate an encouraging classroom environment where all students can thrive
- Participate in IEP meetings and communicate regularly with families and school teams
- Adapt instructional approaches as needed for students with varying academic, social, and behavioral support requirements
